Shiitake Care Guide

Your shiitake mushroom log is a wide range producing log. It will produce mushrooms in October, November, December and again in March April and May with very little effort.

Place your log in a shaded area (out of direct sunlight) preferably out of the wind and off of the ground 2" to 3" (cinder block or red brick will work for this). After a good rain of 1/2" plus check your logs for pinning (starting to grow mushrooms). This will happen 24 to 48 hours after a good rain. Let the caps grow until about 2 to 2 1/2" in diameter or the vail breaks and mushroom cap flattens.Harvest & Enjoy! If your logs do not produce after a good rain, SHAKE THEM UP, by bouncing the end of the long on the ground or thumping the end of the log with a wooden mallet or hammer, this should make them produce after the next rain.

During summer dry spells with no rain for 3 to 4 weeks the log should be sprinkled to keep from drying out. The logs should produce for about 5 years with the best production the first 3 years.
